This guide explains how to make a 3D scan of a person using Polycam and turned into a mesh that can be animated, rigged, and used in VR or computer games.
Setup Your Subject
1. Open Polycam on your phone
2. Tap Photo mode
3. Tap the camera button to make sure Automatic mode is active
3. Have your subject stand in an evenly lit space.
Avoid harsh shadows, and try to make sure they are lit evenly from all directions
4. Put their arms in an A pose.
Make sure they stay completely still. This can be hard without support. If possible, set up two tripods or high chairs for them to rest their fingertips on, so they don’t move as you scan them
1. Tap the Record button to start.
2. Walk around them slowly, moving your phone up above your head, and down to your feet
The slower you walk, the more images Polycam will be able to capture, making your scan sharper. You should take at least a full minute to walk around them. Your subject must stay completely still the whole time!

Tap the Record button again to finish capturing images.
-
Tap Done
Process Your Capture
1. Make sure you are in Photogrammetry mode (not Gaussian Splat)
2. Set your quality to Full
3. Tap Use Object Masking
4. Tap Upload and keep Polycam open until you see the word processing at the bottom of the screen
5. Once your model is finished, you can edit it or export it to use in any 3D software, upload to Adobe’s Mixamo to rig and animate it, or 3D print it!
