Capturing a room or any indoor space with Polycam allows you to create accurate 3D models for a variety of uses, such as interior design, real estate, or construction.
Choosing the Right Capture
Polycam offers several capture modes, each suited for different types of spaces and devices:
- LiDAR Mode: Available on iOS devices with a LiDAR sensor (iPhone 12 Pro and later). This is the most efficient mode for capturing rooms quickly and accurately.
- Room Mode: Specifically designed for capturing entire rooms, providing a detailed 3D map with accurate measurements. If you need to generate a floorplan for an interior space, room mode is the only option that allows this.
- Photo Mode (Photogrammetry): Ideal if you don’t have a LiDAR-equipped device. This mode uses multiple photos to stitch together a 3D model, which can be especially useful for capturing detailed textures within the space.
How to Setup Your Room to Generate Accurate Spams
Before you start capturing, prepare the room for the best results:
- Ensure Proper Lighting: Good lighting is crucial, especially in Photo Mode. Natural light works best, but you can also use artificial lights. Avoid low-light conditions as they may affect the quality of your capture.
- Clear the Space: Remove any clutter or objects that might obstruct the view of key features in the room.
- Plan Your Path: Decide how you will move through the space. In Room and LiDAR Modes, make sure to walk in a continuous path without doubling back to avoid errors like double walls.
