How to Change the Owner of a Polycam Team Account

The workspace owner holds the highest level of permissions within a Polycam account and has complete control over all functions and settings.

  • Billing management: Control subscription plans, payment methods, and billing information
  • Member administration: Add, remove, and manage permissions for all team members
  • Workspace settings: Configure team-wide preferences and access controls

Important: A Polycam workspace must have at least one owner at all times. If the current owner needs to be removed from the workspace, another user must be assigned as the new owner before proceeding.

Prerequisites

Before transferring ownership, ensure the following requirements are met:

  • Current owner status: You must be the current workspace owner to initiate an ownership transfer
  • Active member: The new owner must already be a member of your workspace
  • Account access: Both the current and new owner should have active Polycam accounts

1Switch to Your Team Workspace

Before accessing your team library, check that you're in the correct workspace:

  • Locate the Workspace Tab: Look for your workspace tab in the top left corner of the webpage. The tab displays your currently selected workspace name.
  • Access the Workspace Menu: Click on the workspace tab. The menu will display all available workspaces and organizations, including both your personal workspace and any organizational workspaces you have access to.
  • Select Your Team Workspace: Choose the workspace you want to manage from the dropdown.

2Navigate to People tab

Once you're in the correct workspace, click on the People tab to view all team members and their current permission levels.

4Assign a New Owner

Locate the user who will take ownership of the account:

  • Find the member in the list
  • Click the permission drop-down menu on the right-hand side next to their name
  • Select Owner to assign them as the new workspace owner

If you're the new owner, review the following:

  1. Verify billing information: Check that the email address and payment method associated with your invoice are up to date
  2. Review team members: Check that all members have appropriate permission levels
  3. Update workspace settings: Configure any team-wide preferences or access controls
  4. Adjust previous owner's role: Set appropriate permissions for the previous owner if needed

Unable to Change Ownership

If you're experiencing issues transferring ownership:

  1. Verify your permissions: Confirm you are currently the team owner
  2. Check member status: Check that the new owner is an active team member
  3. Try refreshing: Log out and back in, then attempt the change again

New Owner Not Appearing in List

If the person you want to designate as owner doesn't appear:

  • Confirm they have accepted their workspace invitation
  • Verify they have an active Polycam account
  • Check that you're viewing the correct workspace if you manage multiple teams
