How to Export Polycam Captures

Exporting your 3D captures from Polycam lets you use your models in other software, share them with others, or save them for future reference. This guide covers how to export on both the Polycam web platform and the mobile app.

Plan Availability

Export availability varies by plan and format. All plans support exporting, but available formats differ.

Tip: Available file types vary by subscription plan and capture type. To see which formats are available to you, see What File Types Can Polycam Export.

Export Settings

Before downloading, you can configure the following settings to ensure your file works correctly in your target software.

Note: Export settings are global and apply to all captures. For example, changing the point cloud density will affect the density for every capture you export, not just the current one.
Units

Choose between Imperial and Metric measurement systems.

ImperialMetric
  • Feet and inches (e.g. 6 ft 2.00 in)
  • Whole feet and inches (e.g. 6 ft 2 in)
  • Inches (e.g. 74 in)
  • Decimal feet (e.g. 6.16 ft)
Point cloud density

Controls the number of points in a point cloud export. Higher density produces more detail but results in larger file sizes.

Point cloud up axis

Y axis upZ axis up
Mesh up axis

Sets the vertical axis orientation for mesh exports.

Splat up axis

360 mesh export mode

Determines the geometry used when exporting 360 captures as a mesh. Capsule is suited for indoor or room-scale captures, while Sphere works better for panoramic or outdoor environments.

Tip: If your model appears flipped or sideways after importing into another application, try switching the up axis setting and re-exporting.

How to Download Your Captures

1

Access your library: Open Polycam on web or in the app and navigate to your Library, where all your captures are stored.

2

Select a capture: Click or tap the capture you wish to download. This opens the 3D viewer where you can preview it and make any adjustments.

3

Open the download menu: Click the Download button in the top right corner on web, or tap the downward arrow icon (↓) on the app.

4

Choose your format: Select the format that best suits your needs. Options include OBJ, STL, GLTF, and more. Adjust any format-specific settings as needed.

Note: Export processing time depends on file size and your device or connection speed. Large, high-resolution captures may take several minutes to process.
5

Download the file: Click or tap Export. Depending on the file size, this may take a few moments. Once complete, your file will be saved to your device or computer.
