How to Convert a LiDAR Capture into a Photogrammetry or Splat Capture

There isn't a direct way to convert a LiDAR capture into a photogrammetry or splat capture within the Polycam app. However, you can achieve this by downloading the raw data associated with your LiDAR capture and manually uploading the extracted images to create a new model.

Raw data files are only available for LiDAR captures taken while Developer Mode was enabled.

Download and Extract the Raw Data

1. Make sure your LiDAR capture was taken with Developer Mode enabled

2. From the Polycam app, export the capture as a Raw Data (.zip) file

3. Extract the downloaded folder on your computer

4. Navigate to images:

  • Open the keyframes directory inside the unzipped folder
  • Open the images folder — this contains the original JPEG captures

Upload the Images to Create a New Model

1. Log in to your Polycam account 

2. Click the Create button on the bottom left of your screen

3. Choose whether you'd like to process the model as Photogrammetry or Splat

4. Upload the JPEG images from the images folder to process the capture
