How to Add Comments to Your Captures

Adding comments to your 3D captures in Polycam allows you to collaborate, make notes, and share insights with others viewing the capture.

How to Use Comments

1Creating a Comment on Mobile

  • Open the Polycam app and log into your account
  • Navigate to the capture you want to comment on
  • In the navbar, tap on Comments
  • View any existing comments for this capture

Adding Your Comment

  • Tap anywhere on the capture to open the comment window
  • Type your comment in the pop-up window
  • Tap Save to apply the comment to your capture

2Creating a Comment on Web

  • Log in to the Polycam website
  • Navigate to the capture you want to comment on
  • In the navbar on the left-hand side, click on Comments
  • View any existing comments for this capture

Adding Your Comment

  • Click anywhere on the capture to open the comment window
  • Type your comment in the pop-up window
  • Click Save to apply the comment to your capture

Collaboration Tip: Comments are pinned to specific locations on your capture, making it easy for teams to discuss and annotate specific areas or features. All comments are visible to anyone with access to the capture.

3Adding Replies to a Comment

The threaded reply feature enables users to maintain organized discussions and streamline feedback within captures.

Creating a Reply

  • Navigate to a comment within the capture
  • Tap or click on the comment to open it
  • At the bottom of the comment, click Add Reply
  • This creates a thread within the comment for organized discussion

Posting Your Reply

  • Type your reply in the text field
  • Click Add to post it to the thread
  • Your reply will appear nested under the original comment

4Modifying Your Comments

Accessing Comment Options

  • Navigate to the comments section within your capture
  • On mobile, drag the comments section upward to view all comments
  • Click the three dots next to any comment to see modification options

Available Options

  • Share: Copies the link to the comment inside the capture. Comments can be shared with anyone who has a Polycam account.
  • Resolve: Marks a comment as complete, helping track which issues have been addressed
  • Disable replies: Prevents users from replying to the comment
  • Delete: Removes the comment from your capture permanently

Troubleshooting

Access and Permissions

Not Logged In

You must be logged into your Polycam account to create, view, or interact with comments. If you're not logged in, the comments feature will not be accessible.

Sharing and Visibility

  • Comments can only be shared with users who have Polycam accounts
  • Users must have access to the capture to view associated comments
  • Private captures only show comments to invited users

Comments Not Saving

If your comments aren't saving:

  1. Check your internet connection
  2. Verify you're logged into your account
  3. Ensure you have permission to edit the capture
  4. Try refreshing the page or restarting the app

Unable to Reply

If you cannot reply to a comment:

  • The comment owner may have disabled replies
  • Check that you have access to the capture
  • Verify you're logged into your account
